Senior School Sports Bulletin

Well done to everyone who took part in our recent fixtures and extra-curricular sports. Some notable mentions:
- George Heriot’s first ever U15 Girls’ Cricket Team won their first match against EA by 28 runs.
- U15 Boys’ Cricket team won their Scottish Cup tie against Hutchesons’ Grammar School by 5 wickets and progress to the quarter final.
- Boys and Girls Rowers took part in the prestigious Junior Sculling Head 2024, to compete across 4KM. The Boys’ 1st IV raced especially well, placing 10th amongst some of the best junior crews in the UK, while both girls' boats also placed well. This is the first time GHSRC has competed in this event, and it was an all-round success.
- Three rowers have been selected to row for the U16 Scottish Region at the Junior Interregional Regatta. Congratulations to Lottie Wardrop (S4), Ben Lake (S4) and Juliette Wambergue (S4).
- At the Scottish Rowing Spring Regatta, the Boys’ J18 Quad (Samuel O’Carroll S6, Scott Desmeulles S6, Cameron Khan S5 and Alec Mann S6) and Girls’ Novice team (Zoe Noble S3, Kate Desmeulles S3, Amy Fulton S3 and Isla Griffith S3) won gold in their respective events. There was a number of other standout performances including Scott Desmeulles S6 (silver in the J18 single event), and Ben Lake S4 and Toby Monaghan S3 in the J15 pair won silver.
- Saturday Tennis is underway with matches vs Mary Erskine, St George’s and EA. Senior Girls’ 1st VI have been victorious each weekend. Boys’ 1st VI lost out narrowly 5-4 to EA. Over 100 pupils playing tennis each Saturday morning and it’s been brilliant having the courts filled and busy with lots of impressive talent on show!
- This term, the Girls National Championship Tennis Team narrowly lost out to Glasgow Academy in a tie break shoot out.
- Our mixed U14 Tennis team played in a tournament at Glenalmond, and the team came 3rd overall- the players did extremely well, taking the games to deuce on several occasions vs Dollar and Strathallan who came 1st and 2nd.

- The Rowing team at the Castle Semple Regatta on Saturday 11 May.
- Weekend fixtures- Senior Boys Tennis v. Merchiston Castle School, Senior Girls, S3 Boys/ Girls, S2 Boys/ Girls, and S1 Boys/Girls Tennis v. George Watson’s College.
- Cricket- 1st XI, B1, C1, D1, D2 all against George Watson’s College.
- Pupils participating in the Edinburgh Schools Athletics Championships at Meadowbank Stadium.
